I considered running the half this Sunday but 2 things stopped me.
- I had one of the hardest runs of my life last weekend and only finished 11 miles. I don't think my body is quite up for it just yet. How is it that just a few months ago I was running 16-18 miles and feeling great? I have come to learn, fitness is lost very quickly.
- A few days ago the balance in my checking account was 54 cents. Gas money and a hotel are pretty much out of the picture.
Struggling 20-something? I think so. :)
Despite Sunday's run from hell my body allowed me 3 pretty great runs this week, so far. The best of my runs being Thursday's treadmill run. I ran 6 miles on hardly any sleep and a slight hangover from one too many glasses of Sangria. I managed to hit my tempo pace for 3 miles and felt great! I guess sometimes alcohol and sleep deprivation can do the body good. Maybe once in a millennium.
Best of luck to everyone racing this weekend! Especially Miss. Zippy who is facing a sinus infection on the week of her marathon. She will still kick a**, I am certain of this.
Running Fuel?

((hugs)) what a tough choice! i feel your pain financially. i wish we weren't struggling 20-somethings!
ReplyDelete"They say that money isn't everything, but I'd like to see you live without it." haha One of my favorite lines from one of my favorite Silverchair songs from one of my favorite years in high school!
ReplyDeleteIt SUCKS how much money is involved with racing! We just bought our plane tickets for my Vegas marathon trip. $717. And the race fee, and paying someone to take care of all the critters while we're gone... This is an expensive trip just for one race! Oh well... I guess you only have your first marathon once, right?
It's kinda funny to think that I had wanted to take up golf for several years but never did because I thought it would be too expensive. I took up running because, hey, that has to be cheap, right?
HA! Joke's on me!
sorry plans had to change, but it sounds like you made the smart decision. and glad you bounced back from that bad run, i was there myself recently. that sangria looks quite tasty by the way!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry that you won't be able to run the marathon this weekend. It was a tough decision to make, but a smart one. You will recover to run another day (marathon).
ReplyDeleteI may be a 50-something, but I understand the money thing still. Especially race entry fees, probably because when I ran my first marathon they were around $40! And, no, it wasn't THAT long ago (1996). I remember complaining when the LA marathon went up to $60. Now it's around $150, a shocking amount to me, especially when there are two of us who run.
Okay, rant over. Stay smart with your training and you'll run strong in Surf City.
I'm sorry about Malibu! But you will rock the Surf City Marathon! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for your disappointment. I know the feeling of not having enough money to do what you want, especially when the thing you want doesn't seem that extravagant! My heart does go out! Big hugs!
ReplyDeletehey chica!!
ReplyDeleteaww I wish races weren't so expensive! at least there will be plenty more to do, and you'll do awesome in your upcoming race!
I hope you have a great week ahead of you!
xoxo!
Don't forget the 10 percent rule, Kate. You may be loading on too much too soon. Let your body adjust and the long runs should come easier. Also, don't forget the air was really, really dry this weekend. I had to take in more water than usual on my run just to keep my throat from sticking.

ReplyDeleteI just thought I should add that Friday was pay day so I promise I am no longer broke. Everyone seemed shocked by my lack of funds. I'm all good now - no worries! :) (I am just terrible with money).
ReplyDeleteLooks like I misunderstood...sorry to hear you missed the race!
