Brooks I.D. athletes use their athletic talent to help carry out the Brooks mission: To inspire people to run and be active. We look for athletes who have a passion for Brooks, race and train in Brooks' shoes and apparel, and enthusiastically evangelize the brand.
I love this mission! In fact, it is my mission. Encouraging others to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle is what my life is all about. That is why I spent my undergrad studying community health education. To do just that. I am proud to be a part of such a cool team of people. I am also proud to evangelize a brand I believe in. The reason I switched to the Brooks brand in the first place is because almost all of their shoes are vegan, with the exception of their walking shoes. Cruelty-free shoes are the way to go! Maybe it's the karma from the shoes that has kept me injury-free ever since I switched to Brooks.
I only know a few fellow bloggers that are part of the Inspire Daily team. If you are an I.D. member, let me know!
On a completely different note, race photos are up and ready to order. No, I will not be ordering ANY because I just so happen to take the worst race photos known to (wo)man. Here are a few I managed to snag off the website.
The race started at 6am! It was still dark outside.
The very beginning of a 26.2 mile journey
...and this next one is so hideous, I have no idea why I am letting you see it.
What the heck is that skin on my leg doing!? Since when do I have saggy quads? This is news to me! And my hair is red?! I thought I was blonde? I need to have a talk with Isaac, my hair guy. We have got to do something about that.
Now you have seen me at my WORST, and in a way, at my best. I may look gross but I just ran 26.2 miles for the very first time in my life. I guess my appearance doesn't really matter. Looking pretty isn't going to help me run any faster.
I have to give major props to BrightRoom photography for posting video of everyone's finish. How neat is that? I have never seen anything like that before.
Another side note, my awesome group of lady runners just finished Week 5 of their 10-week 5k training program! They are kicking butt and looking good. I am proud of every single one of them. Go Glenner Girls!
Do you have any hideous race photos?
If so, would you send them to me to make me feel better!?
Happy Thursday, everyone! The weekend is just around the corner!

I love Brooks! So cool you're part of their "Team"! Love it.
ReplyDeleteOk, your pics are darling. And trust me, I've seen some seriously HOT runner chicks whose skin do crazy stuff when a picture is taken at juuuuuuust the right time. So really, your skin is just at the mercy of the photographer when you're a hot runner chick.
Does looking like I'm running away from a serial killer count? If so: http://www.flickr.com/photos/duckierose/4692733132/in/set-72157624205917984/
ReplyDeleteRose!!! That is AWESOME!! Seriously, that picture just made my entire day!
ReplyDeleteHa ha ha! This is too funny...Yes, what the heck is up with your leg?! :) I don't know that I have many race photos or how to send them. How did you get to be part of this Brooks thing? I would love to do this too...so cool. I am planning on trying my very first pair of Brooks soon...thinking of the launch shoes. Do you have much to say about these shoes? What about the ghosts?
ReplyDeletelove the running socks! No race photos yet, but i do have some particularly heinous ones from lacrosse in high school
ReplyDeleteI think I love brooks even more now that I know they are cruelty free! You totally embody healthy, positive, impactful living!!
ReplyDeleteYou look beautiful in the pictures!! Really! You are a BQ'ers to boot!
Go Glenner Runners--they have an awesome coach!
You are too cute to look hideous! Seriously, I don't think your pictures are bad at all! And you definitely know your Run Naked reflectors are working great! :) The style of that tank is super cute. I'll have to check out their website.
ReplyDeleteUm, you should see me after like a 3 mile run. I am bright red and covered in sweat. It is...not cute. You look cute! You are very Zoolander Blue Steel in the first one : )
ReplyDeleteI never like my race photos but I had to laugh when I was in my mom's bedroom the other day. She has a dual picture frame up in her room now. It has a picture of my brother crossing the line at his first marathon (running, studly, looking like he's flying) and then under it is my finish at my first or second marathon, gently stepping across the finish line looking like I'm moving about 1mph and trying to step over a puddle like a princess.
ReplyDeleteIt pissed me off...then cracked me up :-)
I like your pics - you are seriously not seeing the same thing as me. You look mahvelous!
Kate! You always look good!! Seriously! Your leg does look funny in that last one though...But I have some that are a million times worse but NO i will not send them to you for fear of the depression it would cause by me having to see them again!!
ReplyDeleteI love the look on your face in the 1st one...it's like you're saying "marathon shmarathon." I always get so excited for these pix to get posted and I don't know why. I have never, ever taken a single decent photo.
ReplyDeleteYou are still cute, despite the photos. I have to say that the last one doesn't even look like you. Are you SURE that's you? Duh, bib number...sorry!
ReplyDeleteI love Brooks shoes...I can talk about them all day long...but you already like them so..I won't!
Finally, my NYC Marathon photos are the WORST ever. Even my husband said so, they must have been bad. I looked like I was running into the ground, I looked 50 lbs. heavier and my face was just plain old scary. I guess we don't do it for the photos, which is good!
Girl your "hideous" is every woman's dream photo.
ReplyDeleteGirl do not even worry, I scare myself whenever I look at my field hockey action photos..it is not pretty! Slash you are GORGEOUS!! You are so lucky to be a Brooks ID girl, keep helping other people!:)
ReplyDeleteI'm with Emz on this, lol!
ReplyDeleteThanks, everyone but I look like a 90 year old man in the last one! C'mon, admit it!
ReplyDeleteThose photographers and their super high speed camera shutters! Darn them! ;)
ReplyDeleteI did a race down in New Orleans last April and I don't know WHO they hired, but every photo they took was of professional quality and they posed you perfectly. No funky faces or weird skin wrinkles.
Other than that one experience, I swear the race photographers are out to get us!
The first pair of running shoes that I got were Brooks. My dad bought them for me when I did my first 5K at the age of 8. I loved those shoes! I have run in Brooks off and on since then but they just don't seem to help me ward off injury as well as my New Balances. I wish I could wear Brooks. Congrats on being a part of their ID team!
ReplyDeletehi sweet,
ReplyDeleteI love the photos, I think the funny one is that you're running faster than the speed of the film.
Even digital. Where can I see the video?
It was a great race, I wish I would have been there to cheer you on.
RunKateRun~
I'm in the market for some new shoes and have been looking at the Brooks line.. I may just get them now!
ReplyDeleteI have some bad race photos too, I will have to look at them again too see just how bad they are. But hey like you said you just ran 26.2 miles! Awesome job again!! YOU ROCK!!
Can't imagine worse race photos - hope you look better in person. :) We'll get some beautiful, sexy running wood nymph photos at S2S!
ReplyDeleteKovas! You're going down!
ReplyDeleteCONGRATULATIONS on being a Brooks ID Athlete! I know you definitely inspire me!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your race photos. I always look like some hunched over lumberjack galumphing along in mine. Seriously, bad posture + heel strike = f'ugly pictures.
You are standing tall and hardly look like you've broken a sweat!
This has got to make you feel better
http://running.competitor.com/cgiresults_details?pId=2254813&eId=12&eiId=18&seId=43
That is really cool about the whole Brooks thing! And I love that they are cruelty free. I think that was just the deciding factor in me switching to the Brooks Ghost after I wear our my current Mizunos.
ReplyDeleteI'm not scared. I'll tell you the truth. That last picture is pretty darn bad. LOL
@ QVR - how were those pictures supposed to make me feel better when you look like a model flying through the finish!? Thanks for nothin'!
ReplyDelete:)
Congrats on the Brooks ID Athlete. I can't think of a more perfect person to represent them.
ReplyDeleteYour photos aren't bad at all! Look at those rockin' arms!
Congrats on being on the Brooks team!! Sounds like a fun opportunity! Your pictures look great by the way, are you serious?? Man your worst are still better than my good shots! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm an Asics girl, but that's pretty awesome about Brooks being Vegan. May be something to consider for my next purchase! And your pictures aren't bad... mine were the worst!
ReplyDeleteThat's great about the Brooks package! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteAs for race photos, you don't have to worry at all. I think all of us have race photos that are tough to look at afterwards. If you go to my blog, under my SF marathon race recap, some of the photos near the end look like I was involved in a car crash or something, haha
And I also registered for the Chicago Marathon as my 2nd marathon, and my initial time goal is likely going to be the same as you - 3:30, haha
Congrats on the Brooks thing, really cool
ReplyDeleteYour pics are not hideous, what is wrong with the 3rd one?
I have pics like your last one...with the skin action. I know why I have that, I lost 70lbs and well I am over 40 and the excess skin is there. too much sharing? do you feel better?
I have some really horrible ones and wait for it:
I paid for them!!!!!!!!!!!
video: I got one from my half in Carlsbad I posted it on my race report, it is pretty nice to have it since this was my first half
woohoo, you look awesome !! You banged that out nicely. I want to sommeday get a good race photo. It is yet to happen. And once again at Surf City it did not :-(
ReplyDeletePLEASE! I think your photos look terrific. I look a wreck just doing a 5K!
ReplyDeleteAs for Brooks, I am gonna have to check them out. I didn't realize they were cruelty free. Thanks for passing that on!

ReplyDeleteChicago should indeed be awesome!
ReplyDeleteBased on your marathon time of 3:35 you qualify for Corral B - not sure if you already faxed in your Surf City marathon time. I would try to get a Corral as close as possible to the front of the field.
I'm in Corral C right now based on my half marathon time from 2009...
I definitely think that you will beat the 3:30 time, mine might be a little more up in the air, since I ran 3:57 at SF. But that course is really hilly, so I figure that I can do a better training program and Chicago is flat, so I think it will add up to about 3:30 ish - we will see how my training goes starting in May. It will be fun to follow you since you're going for the same time, haha

I tried to put the link but it goes to the wrong runner..some dude pics..but you can see a hideous pic of me on my post from today.
ReplyDeleteLooks like all the other pics are proof your quad isn't deformed. I have pics of me every race that look retarded. I voluntarily put a couple of my own hideous photos on my last post: http://2slow4boston.blogspot.com/2011/02/its-about-time-i-got-logo.html
ReplyDeleteThose pics are so not terrible. I've seen way worse! Congrats on becoming a Brooks ID runner!
ReplyDeleteHahahha...saggy quad. That's what I'll call you from now on, which is funny b/c I'm sure it was just the angle and the lighting and a bunch of stuff creating the perfect storm, not really what your leg looks like. But it is funny. I might have to post my crazy vagina picture. You'll see what i mean when you see it. No, you do not see my vagina.
ReplyDeleteHi there!! My name is Chip, and this is my second year to be in the Brooks ID Program. I found your blog through a friend who knows my love for Brooks.
ReplyDeleteI have a blog too. Check it out when you get a chance: http://chipleduff.blogspot.com/
Welcome to the program, and let me know if you have any questions. :)
Run Happy!!
Can't say I agree with you...you look great in those photos. Strong and smiling! :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your marathon finish!
I laughed so hard at the comments on this post!! Your blog is already so funny and heartfelt and entertaining but now with all the comments following it, I'm enjoying these twice as much!! Kate you are beautiful (inside & out) and I am proud of you for showing what you think is a bad photo...it is about running not glamour...Although it is cool to run and look glamerous...Rose you crack me up!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou think THOSE pictures are bad?!?! You look gorgeous in all of them! I will be sending you some of my 1600 and 5k pics asap - you haven't seen "hideous" just yet.
ReplyDeleteSome of the photos were really good Kate. I got mine today too. 95% bad, but a few good ones. I have never bought a photo, but I will this time. You'll just have to keep checking my blog to see it.
ReplyDeleteWhen Meg raved about her Brooks, I thought about giving them a try to shake things up. Her exact model.
BTW, I was thinking about changing my Blog name to Tales of a So Cal Carnivore.
Girl, you look GREAT! That's crazy talk up there!! :)
ReplyDeleteYay for your running girls!! That is so awesome! I'm sure you are leading them to skinny victory!! :)
ReplyDeleteUmmmm...you should know that I've NEVER had a good race picture. Your skin on your knee is awesome, and you look freaking RIPPED in that photo. Well done chica. I'm still so dang proud of you! 26.2!! NBD!!
I AM so glad to have a little sunshine, but I still think Janae and I need to road trip out to hang out with you!! :) I hope you have an awesome weekend darling! xoxoxo
Your race photos came out well! You should see the one of me at the last race I did. Let's just say it was not flattering :)
ReplyDeleteNothing wrong with your photos. The leg just shows how fast you were running. I've got plenty terrible photos, but the memories are always good.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the Brooks ID program! Brooks is my favourite shoe company, largely because they're the only mainstream company that openly publishes that their shoes are vegan (except their "walking" shoes).
ReplyDeleteAre we going to get to read a guest post from Angela about her race experience?
You're silly. Your race photos are cute! When you're in motion, things are going to look different. You kicked butt and took names!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I have had some horrible race photos. I can't send them to you because I didn't even bother to keep them!
ReplyDeleteModel? I don't know what you've been drinking!
ReplyDeleteTHe picture of you and Ang and the second to last picture are just gorgeous. You look like you're flying. And the thigh thing - while weird -mostly looks like you have super ripped legs. Which you do since you need some powerhouses to get through 26.2 with a BQ. That's all there is to say. :)
I am part of Brooks ID Inspire, welcome to the team!!! You will love how good they treat you, Steve is a great person to deal with.
ReplyDeleteThose are bad?! Oh my...Mine take the cake for the worst...I usually don't even bother to look at them!
ReplyDeleteoh girl! i have so many photos like that its not even funny! i hate when those photog's snap right on the downstep where gravity takes over and stuff is there you dont see normally!!!
ReplyDeleteI have more of those than i care to admit! i am careful to weed them out and never show! LOL!
looking forward to catching up on a new blog!!!
if you think those are bad i don't know what that makes my race photos! i actually really like the one of you and ang : ) congrats on being part of brooks, they are a great company and make awesome shoes!
ReplyDeletebtw, i registered for CHICAGO!!!!!!!
I think you look awesome, the second and third ones are absolutely gorgeous :)
ReplyDeleteand the last one, even the elite woman get pics where their legs look like that. If you are running really fast it's going to happen. It's why I always dreaded getting race photos back, but it's a fact of life. Seriously I'll try to check out some pro pics and send 'em your way :D
Congrats on Brooks ID team and congrats again on your race! I think you lovely and I have many race photos with alot more movement going on in the legs, how much skin do I have on my legs???? But seriously, that second shot is really awesome! ;)
ReplyDeleteI am sitting here just laughing my ass off! Not at you...but only because I once had this hideous picture of me taken playing soccer in high school with the same saggy quad skin thing goin' on! It was so rediculous...I was like, how the heck does that even happen!? First off....again, congratulations on finishing your 1st 26.2! I just did the Carlsbad Half and they also had the video finish, I had never seen that before...so cool. Here is my link, so I can embarass myself too! ;)
ReplyDeletehttp://www.brightroom.com/view_user_event_video.asp?EVENTID=77248&BIB=6696&LNSEARCH=1&PWD=
Ha! Thanks Kate...the saggy quad photo I luckily don't have! ;) But it was WAY worse than your! All your photos are beautiful! I have never bought one...but would totally think about it for my 1st marathon. If you buy one, I would pick photo #3!
ReplyDeleteI have yet to find a good picture of me in any race. I always look terrible, or it's only half of me. I guess I"ll just keep racing until I get a good photo. haha!
ReplyDeleteCONGRATS ON BROOKS!!! That is the coolest thing ever. Girl, you LOOK AMAZING IN THOSE PICTURES!! How do you look that good when you are running a marathon??? I have some terrible race pics ha, I keep them hidden:) Have a great Friday gorgeous girl!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to try to remember to not delete the worst race pictures from now on. We should have a "worst of the worst" contest.
ReplyDelete@Rose I will be the first to enter the "worst of the worst"!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on being chosen for I.D. and welcome to the team. You are perfect for the job!
ReplyDeleteI have a library full of hideous race photos and I promise you they are a billion times more hideous than yours, which aren't hideous at all!!! They're great, you look very pleased :).
ReplyDeleteI never take cute race photos! I remember I was going a bike race a few years ago and my shirt was coming up slightly to reveal my midriff and a nice little roll. Very, very proud of that pic!
ReplyDeleteOh gosh, those are MUCH better race pictures than I ever take!!
ReplyDeleteI sent you via email all the race pics of me I could find it 20 minutes. Enjoy! :)
ReplyDeleteLet me just say... I've NEVER seen a good race photo of anyone. So you're not alone. I've had a few race photos where it looked like my quads were about to attack someone because they looked so huge. Not flattering.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how those race photog peeps make any money!
What the heck are you talking about?! You look just as gorgeous after running 26 miles as you always do! Quit talking smack!
ReplyDeleteyou look wonderful for someone who just CRACKED her first marathon - but what is that weird thing poking out of the top of your vest in that last photo? It looks like an extra hand?
ReplyDeleteRace photos are just AWFUL. I ALWAYS LOOK FAT. AND SHORT. I don't think I'm doing my Victoria Beckham pose competently enough.. Chin down, legs out - instead I look like medieval peasant in mine.
