I don't think there is anything wrong with feeling upset and disappointed about an injury and having to drop out of a race in the final week. The problem is when I start to feel sorry for myself. I'm 25 years old. I have a little tendinitis. Otheriwse, I am healthy and well-fed. I have an apartment and a warm bed to sleep in. I have amazing friends and family and a job that pays my bills. I have so much to be grateful for. So much.
Rather than whine about my situation I should be doing something about others that are less fortunate.
What helps you to gain perspective when you start to feel sorry for yourself?
For me, working at an organization that helps foster children makes it pretty easy to put life into perspective when necessary.
