My four day weekend came to a halt last night and I was welcomed back to San Diego with a slew of e-mails and work to catch up on this morning. I flew out to St. Louis last Friday to visit my best friend for a weekend. I met my “nephew”, Owen, and my best friend’s fiancé, Jarrett, for the very first time. I am in love with that chubby little ball of joy. I am referring to Owen, not her fiancé. I love him too, but he’s not a chubby ball. One of the best feelings comes from seeing someone you love with the right person –“ the one”, as many refer to it. That alone made my weekend superb.
We relaxed, talked, enjoyed delicious food and I explored St. Louis for the first time. The weather was absurdly hot when I arrived but by Sunday fall decided to pay a visit. I seized the opportunity to go for a run. Jarrett and Brittani directed me to Forest Park which I quickly fell in love with. It is a runner’s paradise! One of the nation’s largest urban parks, it is fully equipped with miles upon miles of soft surface running, from single track trails to crushed gravel paths. I couldn’t help but wish Ang was alongside me because I knew she would savor this run. Canary and pumpkin colored leaves spotted the expansive trees in every direction. I ran alongside a long row of beautiful, historical homes until I entered a path into the forest. I immediately turned my music off so I could enjoy the crunching of the leaves beneath my feet; one of my favorite sounds.
I had no idea where I was heading making this the ideal adventure run. There were forks in the road every mile or so and I was able to choose which direction I wanted to explore. I wove in and out of the forest enjoying the unusually crisp air and the smell of fall. This run made me instantly crave a pumpkin spice latte –I told you I’m a starbucks addict!
Before I knew it, Monday had rolled around and I was sad just thinking about packing my suitcase. We spent the day taking a walk and hanging out at the Four Seasons enjoying some cocktails and food. Going away for such a short time usually doesn’t feel like a vacation, but I can honestly say that this time around it did. I was completely relaxed and at peace without a single worry on my mind. I didn’t think about work or bills or stress about the usual day-to-day nuisances. It was truly perfect.
I miss that little man already!
I am already looking forward to next year when Brittani, Jarrett and Owen make their way out to San Diego. That is where I will begin my mission to convince Jarrett to move the family closer to California. ;-) Wish me luck...
