I met Ang last night for an after-work run at our favorite place, Torrey Pines. I write about the trails at TP, probably too often, because I am still in awe of the vast beauty that is Torrey Pines State Reserve. I will never tire of the jagged cliffs, the unusual plant-life, or the stunning ocean views that make me feel like just a speck on this earth.
At one point during our run, I shouted "I love running!" at the top of my lungs as I leaped into the air like a child. Nothing gets me as excited about life as running. It's exhilarating. I can be completely exhausted and ready for a nap, but the moment I get outside and start running, I feel more alive than ever. Last night was one of those instances. I was tired, slightly cranky, and ready for bed as soon as my work day ended. But luckily I had promised Angela that I'd meet her for a sunset trail run. I was slightly dreading having to move. A sedentary night with my kindle seemed way more appealing. Somehow, as soon as we hit the road and made our way toward the trails overlooking the ocean, I felt alive and well and ready to run full-speed ahead. It ended up being an incredible run, and the sunset was one in which the sun was a blazing hot pink. We stopped a few times to stretch and absorb the views -- something that we make a point of doing every time we run here.
We finished our run feeling like we just spent an hour at the spa. Refreshed and rejuvenated. We decided to stuff ourselves silly with leafy greens and indian curry lentil soup at Soupplantation. Talk about a perfect Thursday night! I am so lucky to have a life partner (did I just use that term?) that is also my running partner. I can't imagine live or running without her.
Boston is just 3 days away! Good luck to all of my favorite bloggers out there that are running on Monday. Don't stress about the 80 degree temps -- just RUN HAPPY! You're all amazing women and have all been such an inspiration. I wish I could be there to meet you and share in the Boston Marathon experience! Sending love and well wishes.
P.S. I may have registered for the Long Beach Marathon in October. :) I really needed something to set my sights on.
