This massive chalkboard was put up on the side of a bar in our neighborhood. It is on our block, so I pass it often. I always wonder what I would add. Some of the answers are funny, like "Before I die, I want to father RuPaul's child" and others are incredibly heartfelt like "Before I die, I want to meet my father," and a rather sad one, "learn to love myself." I've yet to share my answer with the neighborhood. Today, I gave it some thought and here is what I came up with. Some are pretty significant and others are silly, but they all made the list for one reason or another.
Before I die, I want to...
Live abroad.
Run the Paris Marathon. I need an excuse to go back and eat baguettes.

Backpack the channel islands.
Do the AIDS ride from San Francisco to L.A. with Angela because I know it would mean the world to her. First, I have to learn how not to complain about hills. :)
Eat greek food...in Greece.

I'm sure I will think of a ton more as the days go on.
What I really want to know is...
What do YOU want to do before you die?

Great list, Kate! I'd like to do just about everything on your list as well. :D
ReplyDeleteI recently posted a fitness bucket list. You can read about it here.
Ah, I can't wait to have coffee with you Kate! Love your spirit. Always. Such a thought provoking post tonight. I love your list. Before I die....Hmmm, I might do this post and link up.
ReplyDeleteParis sounds nice
write a book
Learn another language
Find a way to bottle up the high you get from running a marathon and falling in love/lust for the first time...ha! Seriously, we'd make millions if we could bottle those feelings.
Run a marathon to my full potential...what does that even look like
Live without fear..of any kind
so so so much I want to do before I die. I hope to live a very very very long and passionate life. I've only just begun my living! I must post about this. LOVE.
Amanda, I love your list! I know mine will continue to grow, I just I hope I start crossing off a bunch of these as I go. :)
DeleteAnd I love this way of saying it instead of bucket list...for some reason when people as my bucket list...it seems to give me a mental block....kind of like asking me what my favorite movie is...too many to remember. But before I die.....I could go on and on...it doesn't seem as hard to choose as a bucket list even though it is essential the same thing. Just seems to flow better.
ReplyDeleteGreat list! Two in particular are at the top of my list. I feel about animals the way you feel about kids. My life goal is to run a rescue. And I WILL live near the beach before I die. It doesn't even have to be ON the beach... just within a decent driving distance. It will happen. Oh yes... it WILL happen...
ReplyDeleteThen I think you should probably move to San Diego ASAP!
DeleteI hope you get to run a rescue one day. That would be incredible!
awesome post/list! you may have just inspired me to craft a list... Paris & the Paris Marathon, Same Sex marriage 100% legal in the US and everywhere and a ultra trail race are also at the top of my list. I must must must eat authentic italian food in Italy and visit all 50 us states and if you want to run a slow 1st marathon with someone im your girl :)
ReplyDeleteI love it!
DeleteI adore this post! I want to write a book too.
ReplyDeleteYours is an inspiring list! I'd have to give some thought to mine, but I'm sure that my list would end up looking far more selfish than yours.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love this. I would also have win a race, see same-sex marriage legalized, take my mom on her dream vaca, and have a wedding with lots of laughter and love on my list! I would add: qualify for and run the Boston marathon, travel to Asia, Africa, and Australia, meet Drew Barrymore, (I have admired her for years!:)) own a dog, and impact a child's life in a positive and meaningful way... not sure yet that I want to have kids, but I would like to do it for my niece and nephew or my friends' kids, whether or not I have my own!
ReplyDeleteI love your list! Especially the Drew Barrymore one. I always thought her and I would be really good friends. I'm not 100% about kids either, which I why I left the pregnancy open to being a surrogate. :) Qualifying and running Boston - you've got that one in the bag!
DeleteLooks like a great bucket list! For me, I would also like to experience pregnancy and childbirth, run my first marathon, have a job that combines my three passions (writing, teaching, and fitness--what would this job be??), return to Spain with my husband, and visit every continent (except maybe Antarctica. I really don't like being cold.).
ReplyDeleteThis is an awesome post!! I have been inspired to make my own!
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful post!! I want to make my own list. Here's a few: 1. Run the Grand Canyon rim to rim to rim 2. Run a 50 mile trail race 3. Live in a sustainable eco-village where you can live off the land (dude! check this place out in Costa Rica http://www.osamountainvillage.net/ we really tried to move there, but apparently it takes 4 years to get your physical therapy license) 4. Run the entire Wildwood Trail in Portland end to end with my love 5. Become vegan instead of vegetarian 6. I would also like to see same sex marriage legalized and ACCEPTED 7. Become sponsored by any gear company, preferably Vibram Five Fingers, Athleta, or Lululemon (but really, I'm not picky hehe) 8. Run a marathon barefoot.
