Proud Mama, 20 Miles + RnR LA Half

This Friday marked a very important moment in my life as a dog mother.  I was planning on taking Miss Holly for a walk and Ang was going to run on the trail by our apartment.  We followed her to the trail and when it came time for Ang to run, I decided to see if Holly would run for a bit.  She didn't just run, she ran for three miles!  I was the proudest mom ever.  I also got in an unplanned 3 miles, so that was pretty sweet.

p.s. that's the new top I got from The Clymb for cheap!

I love that darn dog.

I had a 20 miler planned for Saturday morning and the night before, I ate this delicious sesame tofu wrap from Whole Foods.  I wish I could afford to eat every meal from Whole Foods.

holy yum.

I ran my 20 miler yesterday on the treadmill.  Why would I do such a thing?  Because it was drizzly outside (and obviously I'd melt ;) and I wanted to do a progression run.  I find it much easier to do progression runs on the treadmill because the treadmill forces me to go a certain pace whether I like it or not.  I also have to think less, and that's always a good thing.

I finished up 20 miles at an average of 8:29/mi pace (2:49:50) and felt great!  I ate a whole pack of Clif Shot Bloks, and I think it helped tremendously as I usually fail at fueling properly.

This was my second and last 20 miler before Santa Barbara in a few weeks.  I am running the RnR L.A. Halloween Half Marathon next Sunday as a tune-up race.  Thank you to Brooks for the free entry!  I rented a little apartment downtown just 1.5 miles from the start so that I can get in 3 miles total of warm-up and cool-down (for a total of 16.1 miles).  I am becoming quite the planner, aren't I?  I rented through airbnb.com, my favorite rental site.  Ang and I have used it for basically every trip in the last year.  It is fabulous!  I highly recommend it!  This is the little loft I got us for next weekend:

We are taking a trip to Portland for 6 days over the holidays and I booked us the nicest loft downtown!  I'll have to share pictures with you eventually.

I am currently sitting in the student study lounge at Angela's school while she takes a practical exam.  We are going for a trail run as soon as she finishes.  My brain hurts just listening to the students talk about body parts.  It sounds like japanese to me.  Even so, it makes me want to go back to school.  I am itching for a master's degree; I just need to decide what I want to do with my life. Is there a career that involves reading tons of books and running?  Because I would dominate that profession!

If you could create your own profession and get paid for it, what would it be?
I would be a professional reader/runner/snacker/napper.

  1. I would be a professional world traveler! The good news is, when I finish this degree I will be doing what I love. However, when we are forced to work 40+ hours a week that love wanes.

Looking forward to watching you rock the 1/2 next weekend :)

  2. That doggy is so cute! Makes me kind of regret the at-home haircut I just gave my dog. I'll have to check out that travel site in the future!

  3. Holly is such a cutie! I have tried to get my dog to run but she gets about 400 meters down the road and sits down, completely unimpressed. That wrap looks amazing; I think I just stared at it for 5 minutes before reading on. Best of luck with your race next weekend!!

  5. Gotta love unplanned miles, Go Holly!

I'll be the professional reader/runner/snacker/napper in the next city that you refer people too. Only I guess I'd better get cracking at those miles, I'm a reader/napper/runner/snacker right now.

  8. Your dog is SO cute!! Ah yes, I can remember sitting around at USA talking about body parts as well. So exciting that you're running Santa Barbara! That one's definitely top on my list of marathons to run. We are thinking about making a move to Ventura County, so that wouldn't be too far. We'll see if we can ever pull ourselves away from Portland, you guys are going to love it when you come to visit! That loft is awesome...
