ART Rocks My Socks Off + Daily Dose of Cute

I went to see good old Dr. Todd at The League today.  He's my running doc and I've mentioned him here.  He did some ART on my feet and calves and holy cow, it was good.  It was super painful but in that I-know-this-is-good-for-me-so-I-love-it way.  I left feeling lighter and better all around.  I saw Dr. Todd for my peroneal tendinitis in the past and haven't had a problem with that tendon since.  He is a miracle worker!  I kind of want to call him Toddosaurus Rex, but there would be no reason behind that.

I didn't realize he'd be taping my feet and I wore sandals to work.  I like to think I'm starting a new fashion trend.

That is a band-aid on my right big toe.  I am about to lose 2 toenails.  Just waiting...
I had my first post-marathon run yesterday with Ang.  It was extremely slow and pretty uncomfortable but I managed to get in a little over 4 miles.  I am hoping  I can have a less painful run after seeing Dr. Todd today. I will let you know how that goes.

We took some adorable shots of Holly, our pooch, while we were in Santa Barbara and I just have to share them with you.  I am like one of those moms constantly showing baby pictures.  I can't help myself!

I think Holly was very happy that I hung out with her all weekend without leaving for extended periods of time to run.

She loves running, just like her mommies.

In fact, I think Holly should start her own blog for other running dogs!
I even created a banner for her!

Like mama like doggie!

Okay, I think I have tortured you enough with dog pictures.  I will leave you with that.

Have you ever had ART?
More importantly, are you a dog lover?

I wanted to give you all a heads-up that Run with Kate is undergoing a serious make-over.  It's actually more like a surgical face lift.  She's even changing her name. *gasp*  I am hoping the big reveal will be some time this week!  Be sure to come back and check it out!

  1. Love love LOVE ART!!! Dr. B is my A.R.T. person and I swear she's got magical powers ;) And I'm a dog lover, too... especially of my big Humane Society Special (his official "breed" ;), Harper.

  2. I would like to try ART. And I love your new fashion trend. I've never taped this way but I was sporting the tape all summer with my sandals. Love. Can't wait to see your blog "facelift". I need/want one of those too. xo

  3. I had ART for the first time last week and have to say I loved it! Although it didn't "cure" my issue, my foot felt amazing when it was over and I'll definitely be going back for more.

And, yes, yes, YES, I am a dog lover! There is nothing better than sitting on the floor and having my dog curl up next to me with her head in my lap. Or looking at me with her big, beautiful almond eyes. Ahhh...dogs are the best!

I love all your pictures of Holly and can't wait to see the big reveal of your new website. :)

  4. Okay, I'm such a fan of ART you'd think I was their national spokesperson. And I've never met anyone else with peroneal tendonitis but I've dealt with it since high school. Yeesh....

    1. Yikes! Since high school--that's rough. I am a huge fan of ART as well! Maybe we should get FREE ART since we promote it so often. How can we pitch that?

  5. LOVE ART - well, not the pain part, but....I really like trigger point, which I can do on my own, but don't do enough. I'm starting to get hooked on KT taping too - have to learn to do it myself. (found you via Shut Up & Run) Congrats on your race, even though it may not have been what you wanted.

  6. I've never had ART. Honestly I'm not even really sure what it is.

    1. I actually thought about calling you out on my blog post because I knew you would appreciate the pictures!

ART is Active Release Technique. It is often performed by Physical Therapists but some chiropractors are certified to do it as well. It's amazing stuff!

  7. How do I find someone in Richmond VA who does ART?!?! I REALLY want to try it, sounds like such a wonderfully amazing pain!

Did you get your insurance to cover it??

    1. My insurance covers it b/c it is part of a chiropractic treatment. If you have chiro and find a doc who does ART, you just may be able to get it covered.

    2. My insurance doesn't but many will, like SUAR said. I use my flex spending account to pay for my visits which are $60/visit.

  8. I'm in love with your dog! I love this banner, I want to make one with my dogs. I've never had ART, but I see a deep tissue massage therapist is Portland that rips me apart! And I should add he's very good, he kept me running when I used to get injured all the time. You're going to be in Portland before you know it! If you want that guy to torture you his name is Andrew Page, his website is deeptissuepdx.com. :)

  9. I thought of you today when my son came out of our 4-mile turkey run with a bleeding big toe. He was fine with the pain until he saw the blood.
