If you've ever read my blog, you've probably noticed that I am slightly obsessed with
Scott Jurek. He is my vegan running inspiration. His incredible athleticism paired with his integrity make him a great role model and someone I deeply admire. He is one of the most modest athletes out there, in my opinion, and one of the greatest. I loved him even
before I went vegan and he was one of the many factors that helped me flip the switch. Scott is even the reason I started wearing
Brooks!
You might remember Angela getting this poster signed for me back in Chicago before the Chicago Marathon. I was thrilled to receive this and it now resides over my treadmill as inspiration during those tough speed sessions.

That is why I was beyond thrilled to receive an unexpected package yesterday from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishers. Inside was an advance copy of Scott Jurek's new book (on sale June 5th)
Eat & Run: My Unlikely Journey to Ultramarathon Greatness and a letter from Christina, the Publicity Manager. In the letter Christina offered me the chance to interview Scott for this very blog on June 16th when he is in San Diego. Are you kidding me? Dream come true!

In 'Eat and Run', Scott Jurek opens up about his life and career—as
an elite athlete and a vegan—and inspires runners at every level. From
his Midwestern childhood hunting, fishing, and cooking for his
meat-and-potatoes family, to his early beginnings in running (he hated
it), to his slow transition to ultrarunning and veganism, to his
world-spanning, record-breaking races—Scott’s story shows the power of
an iron will and blows apart all the stereotypes of what athletes should
eat to fuel optimal performance. Chock full of incredible, on-the-brink
stories of endurance and competition as well as fascinating science and
accessible practical advice—including his own favorite plant-based
recipes—'Eat and Run' will motivate everyone to “go the distance,”
whether that means getting out for that first run, expanding their food
horizons, or simply exploring the limits of their own potential.
I am dying to crack this book open when I get home tonight!

Running Update: I had my second visit with Dr. Todd and he performed some more ART on my foot, calf and peroneal tendon. I felt like a million bucks when I walked out of his office. I have been gradually increasing mileage and starting to feel like myself again! Last night, I did 6x800s for a total of 6 miles and today I feel fantastic! I am such a big believer in ART now.
Next on my racing agenda is a 5k on June 16th. Several of my colleagues will be there because our organization is a beneficiary of the event, so I want to do well. It's a funny little thing called pride. Two years ago I was the second overall female at this race, and let's be honest, there is no way that will happen this year. But wouldn't it be awesome if it did? I would look so cool in front of my co-workers! Eh, oh well.
I've been enjoying some great trail runs with Angela and loving the hills. Those words sound strange coming out of my mouth, but I've been embracing the hills and dare I say, enjoying them.
I received the
Brooks Ghost 5 in the mail the other day and did my 800s in them. Putting on a new pair of shoes quickly made me realize how badly I needed to toss my old ones. My old Ghosts were completely worn out.

If you had the opportunity to meet any athlete, who would you meet?
What questions should I ask Scott Jurek?
