I got to run here twice this week! Score!
Days like this, I have a hard time imagining having children because I love and appreciate my freedom so much. I have crazy respect for all of the mamas out there. You're so selfless.
And then... I woke up this morning feeling sick as a dog. How does that happen? I felt the sore throat coming on yesterday and the sniffly nose, but I figured it was nothing. Today, I can hardly swallow and I can only breathe out of one nostril.
I had grand plans to run 18 miles and to visit friends in L.A., all of which have been cancelled. I still plan on running the 18 miles tomorrow but for today, the only thing on the agenda is REST. And you all know how much I
I'm keeping a smile on my face and thinking positively. Kristen just got over a bout of strep throat that forced her to take almost a week off of training. If she can handle it, so can I. Besides, we're kind of like twins so it's not surprising that I got sick after she did.
New Gear!
I received a bunch of new stuff from Brooks this week and can't wait to try it all out. I already wore my new shorts and tank and walked around in my Brooks Pure Flows.
I have a new favorite pair of shorts! These are amazing! The waist band isn't as shiny as it looks in the picture. These are so comfortable and super cute. The material is incredibly light and smooth.
and underneath...
Check it out! There is even a little side pocket for your iPod or phone, or in my case, keys.
I'm in love!
P.S. don't be jealous of my awesome kitchen flooring.
I also added a new pair of Pure shoes to my collection -- the pink Pure Flows!
Such a happy family. Those blue Cadences are on their last leg but they are so nicely worn in, I am struggling to say good-bye. Attachment issues?
If you haven't tried shoes from the Pure Project, you might wan to consider it. I've never loved a pair of shoes more. I have extremely high arches, I land on my midfoot, and I am injury-prone. Since switching to the Pure shoes with a 4mm drop, I have felt a major decrease in Plantar Fascia pain. If you have similar issues, I'd recommend the Pure Cadence or Pure Flows. I am definitely not an expert, I'm only speaking from personal experience.
Do you have a favorite pair of running shoes?
What does your perfect day look like?

I love the new shoes! I love that the Pure Project shoes are coming out in so many awesome colors. I do nearly all of my runs in Ghost 5s but am considering buying a pair of Pure Project shoes (maybe the Pure Flows?) and trying those out.
ReplyDeleteI hope you feel better soon! Don't push yourself too hard tomorrow if you're not feeling well.
I used to run in the Ghosts, too! I loved them but always had a feeling I'd do better in a shoe with less of a heel to toe drop because of the way I land. Sure enough, I was right. I love the pure shoes! I'd give them a try! Do you have a RoadRunner Sports near you? They have an awesome return policy. You can wear them for 60 days and return them used and dirty if you don't like them. :)
DeleteLove the new Pure Project shoes - treated myself to a pair of Pure Cadences last week (and then got flu - HEY do you think THAT'S what it is?). I'm taking them out with me tomorrow anyway - we'll see how I do with them.
ReplyDeleteIt's a BORE resting when you're in training - I've had to take a full week off as well - but it's the only thing you can do. What a GREAT life you have there in San Diego!
haha! maybe our shoes are the culprit of that killer flu!
Deleteluckily, I got my 18 miler in. I sucked it up and did it and was able to run 5 days this week. taking a week off is rough but often necessary.
come visit me in san diego, petra!
You are adorable! You make that Brooks gear look fantastic! I still love my Pure Flows but that are over their mileage! Must find a new love!!
ReplyDeleteDid you change your header?
ReplyDeleteI have Pure Flows :-) I haven't been running very long and asked family runners for advice.
I love reading about others Brooks favorite gear. I might have to give those shorts a try:)
ReplyDeleteYou will not regret it! They're so great!
DeleteI have the new Pure Flow's and I love them for my treadmill runs. They are so light and comfy, plus I love, love, love the colors:) Happy Sunday and feel better.
ReplyDeleteI am loving the colors of the Pure shoes! They are so nice and light, I agree.
DeleteHappy Sunday to you too!
I have tried Brooks a few times, but always seem to go back to asics Gel Nimbus. That said, I recently picked up a pair of the Pureflow 2. I *love* the way they feel, but my achilles are always tight after wearing. Did you experience that while getting used to the 4mm drop?
ReplyDeleteThe 4mm drop is a major adjustment, especially if you land on your heel. It didn't cause me any pain because I naturally run on my midfoot. It's definitely a shoe that you want to transition into slowly.
DeleteIf you have a shoe that works for you, I'd recommend sticking with it! It's hard to find just the right shoe.
Good advice, thank you! I think I'll stick to the Nimbus for running, and wear the Pureflows for boot camp and other activities. They do feel wonderful on...one of the most comfortable I've ever owned.
DeleteThat does sound like the perfect day! Just reading about it made me smile :) Being a mom definitely makes those kinds of days more of a challenge to have, but when I get the chance, I can't even tell you how much I LOVE them! I had a pretty good one yesterday that included a run with my running group on a trail that ended on a cliff overlooking the ocean, lunch with one of my best running friends at my fav healthfood store, coffee with another close friend and topped off with a homemade veggie stew that turned out great!
ReplyDeleteHope you feel better quick!
The views that you get to see on your runs are STUNNING! I am beyond jealous of your weather in San Diego -- being so close to the beach must be heavenly!
ReplyDeleteWhat shoes are you planning to wear for Boston? I have the same pink Pure Flow2's as yours and think I will wear those for the marathon. I know you also love your Pure Cadence, right? Those Brooks Glycerin shorts are adorable! I might have to go get a pair. We may as well dress like twins, too, right??
Are you feeling better yet? I hope it was just a sore throat and you are feeling good again. Nice job on the 18 mile treadmill run. You are so awesome!
8 weeks to Boston!!!!!! Of course, that also means 15 weeks to Newport! :) xoxo

Thanks for the heads up on the glycerin 2 in 1! I have been looking for that favorite pair of Brooks shorts. The new pureflow2s are so pretty- I have only had a chance to wear mine once, but the are fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the word to moms. Enjoy your free time! As my kids get older, i am finding more ways to involve them with running. They love it- just not ready to run 18 milers yet!
